Stories of NRI workers in the US losing their jobs and facing huge economic and immigration challenges are now very common. However, amidst the gloom and doom, here’s some reason to cheer. In a major revamp of its existing policy, the government of Sweden is unveiling a new labour immigration system from December 15, 2008, which will make it much simpler for Indians and other non-EU workers to move to Sweden for employment.Sweden’s new immigration policy is targeted in a big way at attracting young immigrants from India and the minister is here to meet his Indian counterparts, minister of labour Oscar Fernandes, minister of overseas Indian affairs Vayalar Ravi and home minister Shivraj Patil. Besides the young workforce that India boasts of, the other advantage that the Swedish government sees in attracting workers from India is the knowledge of English among Indian workers.
